This week on #PoliticsInThePulpit, Jenny speaks to Revd Simon Jay.
Simon is a Baptist minister and works for a Christian Pioneering organisation called Urban Expression. He leads a team in Welsh House Farm, Birmingham and since 2001 Simon and his family have been part of an incarnational Christian community within that neighbourhood. During this time he has set up a local charity called The Haven Community Project, that aims to work alongside the residents. In addition to this Simon and his wife Rachel have been fostering children for 17 years and are involved in delivering training to prospective foster and adoptive families. Simon has recently completed an MA at Bristol Baptist college in Theology and mission.

David and his wife Mary are joint pastors of Dormansland Baptist Church in Surrey. David trained at Spurgeons, where he is now an associate tutor. His particular area of research is Christian theology and disability.

Kate works as a United Reformed Church minister in Wythenshawe amongst The Dandelion Community focussing on healing, peace building, creativity and learning with the Holy Spirit. She is a PhD research student exploring theology and activism: Christian responses to poverty in 'Breadline Britain' and is a member of Christian Climate Action.

Daleen is Missional Discipleship Mentor for Lancashire Area in the North West Synod. She works alongside 31 United Reformed and LEP Churches. She is also one of the Green Apostles for the Synod, DEO for Lancashire and Governor for Northern College, Luther King Centre. Daleen is one of the founders and trustee member of Kairos Housing for destitute Refugees and Asylum Seekers.

Ash is the founder of Seedbeds. For over 30 years Ash has lived intentionally on the front line of urban poverty and seen the unique potential of urban people and places released around the world. Since 2014, the Barkers have been planted in Winson Green, inner city Birmingham, UK and have been building a new team with a fresh vision to grow the capacities of urban leaders and their communities wherever they live.

Lynita was born in South Africa; a qualified barrister and worked for 19 years in Namibia as a human rights lawyer. Lynita moved to the UK in August 2013; in 2021 she was awarded a professional doctorate in practical theology by the University of Chester.

Al is Rector of Hodge Hill Church in east Birmingham, a partnership between the URC and Church of England. He’s also a co-convener for the locally-rooted Common Ground Community. His recent book ‘Being Interrupted: Reimaging the Church’s mission from the Outside, In’ calls the church to open a door to a creative disruption of the status quo.
